What is sensory play?
Sensory play is any activity that engages a child’s senses — including touch, sight, sound, smell and sometimes taste.
As our motto states - Little Hands. Big imagination - at Silly Goose, our sensory experiences are designed to encourage children to explore, create, experiment and learn through hands-on play.
Is sensory play educational?
Absolutely! Sensory play is learning through doing. As children scoop, pour, mix, sort, squeeze and explore, they are developing early mathematical, scientific, language, motor and problem-solving skills — often without even realising they're learning.
Allowing kids to explore through sensory play allows them to expand on their imagination and creativity with tools like Silly Goose Sensory Kits.
Who can use Silly Goose Sensory Kits?
As our Silly Goose Sensory Kits are made from a variety of materials; including those that are small and fine, it is recommended that kiddos aged 3 and up use these kits. For toddlers who are inclined to place items in their mouths it is recommended they use these kits under supervision.
These kits are not exclusive to toddlers and can be used by kiddos; small and big!
How long do Silly Goose Sensory bases last?
Our Silly Goose Sensory Kits and bases are made with coloured pasta, rice and non-toxic paints and are designed to be enjoyed again and again. With proper care and storage, they can last for many months and often longer.
To help keep your sensory kit fresh, we recommend storing it in an airtight container or sealed bag between play sessions. Avoid contact with water or moisture and aim to keep these kits and bases somewhere cool and dry. Always check the materials before each use and discard them if they become damp, mouldy or otherwise unsuitable.
Because our kits are designed for hands-on play, their lifespan will also depend on how often they are used and how little hands interact with them. The more carefully they're handled and stored, the longer they can be enjoyed!
How do I set up sensory play at home?
You don't need a complicated setup. A tray, tub or shallow container can provide a great starting point. Add a sensory material; such as our Silly Goose Sensory Kits and/or bases, and some age-appropriate tools such as scoops, cups, spoons, moulds or natural objects. The key is to let children explore freely rather than focusing on creating a particular outcome.
